DAY OF DAYS

Today was my late father's and living Aunt Margie's birthday. Not that I could forget it if I wanted to -- it is also the day hundreds of TV stations switched from analog to digital signals. As of about six this evening my set was still receiving.

For the past year I have been bombarded with PSA's telling Americans their TV's would be switched over on this day and they'd better get converter boxes if they didn't have digital TV's, cable or satellite. Why did it have to be this day of all days? Ironic, as my father worked for the FCC.
