CHERRY BLOSSOM TIME

Did my DC resident duty--saw the cherry blossoms and various other flowering trees. My junior year I saw Chekhov's Cherry Orchard during cherry time -- all the outdoor vendors were selling cherries and McDonalds was serving cherry shakes. And giving away a cherry-red motor scooter.

HELP WANTED/NEEDED

I am posting this for one of my Facebook friends who is 27 years old and has end stage renal disease: “anyone interested in possibly donating a kidney? Call Penny Belden at 216-844-1932 to get the ball rolling. No need to be local. I’m desperate.”

The only web address she gives is http://www.pigloo.net/ , but the owners have been notified.

WEEK 13

This is taking all the energy I have to type. My big pig is doing better, but I will feel better after I get her to the vet Tuesday. Saw the cardiologist – had an echo, may have a Holter monitering also. May also have the beginnings of bronchitis. At least my massage business has been picking up.

"Focus on the Family" has been running an old interview with David Berkowitz. Not a nice guy. I figure next to him I’m not such a bad person.

I WORRY

That I have been enjoying the David Berkowitz Interview WAY too much.

THIS SPORTING LIFE

Went to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes dinner with former NFL Player Scott Turner last night. No, he wasn't my date, he was signing autographs.

MATTERS OF THE HEART III

Saw the cardiologist, followed up with a visit to McDonalds. I imagine my next visit to the endocrinologist will be followed by a trip to Baskin Robbins. Or Carvel.

I FEEL AS THOUGH I'D SWALLOWED A PORCUPINE

Or a bunch of microscopic porcupines. And whose bright idea was it to put lotion on Puffs? It is not comforting, it is messy. Especially if you wear glasses.

It's hard to NOT believe in curses. Then I find homemade baked goods in the kitchen.

ADOPT A PIG

March is Adopt A Rescued Guinea Pig Month.

WEEK TWELVE

My big pig is making a faster recovery than expected. And I still have a job at this writing. Last weekend I watched Threads and The Day After, both of which deal with the horrors of nuclear war in the US and UK. While I realize how lucky we are not having to deal with nuclear fallout, it still angers me that we are dealing with the fallout of another human-made disaster.

SLEEP

Is highly underrated. I slept most of the day and again dreamt about the house in which I grew up.

Booked a flight and hotel to/in Puerto Rico yesterday. Feel as though I've launched a missile.

JABEZ II

Finished the Prayer of Jabez yesterday. I realize I started in in January, but I kept forgetting it. So I started it in earnest in February and said it at least thirty times over a period of 30 days. Now let's see what happens.

OUT OF AFRICA

Or beating out Africa. But not in a good way. DC's HIV/AIDS rate is at three per cent, topping that of West Africa. Not something to be proud of.

THINGS ARE TOUGH ALL OVER

D did six massages today. Because he got hardly any, if any all week long. C works 15 hours a day some days. And he comes from at least as far as Baltimore.

WEEK ELEVEN

The big stories this week – had to take my big pig to the vet with a raging pododermatitis. On the brighter side, Mom DEFINITELY wants to go to Puerto Rico.

Of course, it never rains, but it pours – people want massages when I’m sleeping, at the vet’s office, etc.

VICARIOUS THRILLS

I get happy just looking at travel web sites. Maybe I don't need to take a vacation at all, just look at the pictures. Except Mom doesn't have internet access.

BUSTED!

Saw a story on TV about some chicks running a massage parlour somewhere in Virginia. Anyway, they got busted for prostitution.

Part of me says "Hah, serves them right, that's why I'm glad I don't do that."

Another part says "darn them, they give us ALL a bad name."

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

I WANNA GO...

To Puerto Rico. And so does Mom. We both need a vacation.

WEEK TEN

Well, a week that started out with snow and freezing outdoor temperatures ended with headaches, joint pain and elevated body temperature. Still, it hasn’t been such a bad week. With all the news I’ve heard about firings, demotions, deaths etc, I figure I’m luckier than a lot of people.
