I REFUSE TO DRESS AS A GHOST...

...because it ridicules the dead. While I myself am not dead I have friends and relatives who are and do not wish to offend anyone.

I look at the costumes of the people roaming the streets of DC and wonder how many are actually costumes.

WEEK 44

WEEK NINE

Mostly lovely weather, stock market and gas prices about the same, feeling tired a lot.

DAY 287

DAY 57

Remembering my father, who died six years ago today. It was also a Friday.

The second robbery was seven years ago today.

DAY 285

DAY 55

The guy accused of murdering Chandra Levy is on trial -- evidently not a nice guy -- he had other victims, too.

An AU professor was allegedly murdered by a kid with a history with the DC police department. Kind of like the kid who robbed me more than seven years ago.

R had a baby boy. Doctors predicted he'd be born in November, I predicted he'd be a girl. Oh, well.

WEEK 43

WEEK EIGHT

Dow is down slightly, but still over eleven thousand. Weather mostly nice, leaves look like something out of a travel magazine. Gas prices up. I still feel unwell a lot of the time. Went to my high school reunion and to my old elementary school, survived both. Realized we're all grown up and we turned out good.

DAY 280

St. James School is holding its bazaar this weekend:

DAY 49

This morning some old guy was walking down M Street yelling "eat shit!" "Eat shit!"

Why do I find this funny?

HABEMUS CARDINALUM

DC Archbishop Donald Wuerl has been elevated to Cardinal. And McDonald's is going to start making McRibs again. Both noteworthy items.

DAY 278

DAY 48

I realize for most of my life I have looked on my high school/elementary school classmates as threats/competition, i.e. eat or be eaten. Maybe that's why I related to my beloved biggest pig so well.

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

DAY 277

DAY 47

Still recovering from an intense high school reunion weekend. When I was in high school I had no idea how many things life would hand us, good and bad. Kind of like Salvador Dali's Railway Station at Perpignan:

And I marvel at what life has to hand us in the future.

WEEK 42

WEEK SEVEN

Weather started out cold and nasty but improved, Dow down but other indexes up, gas prices up, too. The Chilean miners are out about two months ahead of schedule, so maybe other things will improve faster than expected.

A guy was killed on Ninth Street – evidently suffered trauma. That’s what the diagnoses on my doctor’s bill says: “trauma.” I am not hurting as much physically, but unable to shake this cold I caught last month.

GOT BACK FROM THE "CASUAL" EVENING AT KILROY'S

So far no one has killed anybody.

DAY 273

DAY 43

I am off to my high school reunion. If you hear of any carnage in Springfield you'll know what it is.

DAY 272

DAY 42

All 33 miners trapped in the San Jose gold/copper mine are out. People didn't expect them to be out until Christmas.

DAY 271

DAY 41

A drunken Georgetown University student requested a blow job for $20.00. What a moron. The going rate for BJ's is $200.00. At least that's what I've read.

DAY 269

DAY 39

Observed the holiday by sleeping most of it.

Sunday, October 10, 2010

DAY 268

DAY 38

High school reunion next weekend. It will be a three-day thing: "casual" evening, "formal reception" and "recovery party." The casual evening and recovery party pose the most problems, fashion-wise. How do I look cool AND pretending I don't care how I look because I AM cool?

WEEK 41

WEEK SIX

Dow closed at over 11,000 for the first time since May. Weather started out cold but improved. Gas prices are up (boo) but there's a 30-cent difference between NW and NE DC.

I am trying to keep it together. D has a cold, which he said he got from his daughter. Hope the rest of us don't get it.

INAPPROPRIATE TAROT

Formerly called “Politically Incorrect Tarot,” it’s truly inappropriate but funny: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=352146940779&ref=ts

The first one I got was Justice “The strong arm of the law might not always be fair, but someone is going to get it up the ass today. “

The next one was Judgment: “You're going to get what's coming to you, and no it's not a giant trumpet with a flag of St. George attached to it.”

EVERYBODY HATES FATSO

Fatso should have her own TV show -- "Everybody Hates Fatso." Kind of like in the "Everybody Loves Raymond" vein.

DAY 266

DAY 265

DAY 35

Cops everywhere, but to what avail?

A couple hours ago a guy had a seizure at Starbucks on Columbia Rd.
1) No cop in the usual place in front of Madame's Organ
2) "Community Police" office next to the Suntrust unoccupied.
3) Found an illegally parked cop car in front of the Bank of America. Found the officer inside making a deposit.
Where are emergency personnel when you need them?

Earlier this morning a woman was hit by a car and killed on Connecticut Avenue. Not sure how close I was at the time. Evidently no cops around then, either:

DAY 264

DAY 34

Cops out in full force, including PEO's. Maybe because of last week's gang shootings? It is eerily quiet outside. Maybe because it's cold?

TASTE OF BETHESDA

Went to Taste of Bethesda yesterday.

Two of my favourites were Morton's and Ruth's Chris, although the bread on which they served their sliders overpowered the meat. Delhi Dhaba's butter chicken was good, but why did all the Indian restaurants serve virtually the same thing? One can only eat so many samosas in one day. Just Cakes Cupcakes were good, as were Ben and Jerry's and Gifford's ice cream. One cookie place (I forget which one) made reasonably good, if a little doughy "almond rounds."

The big disappointment was the Burger Joint's sliders. I LOVED the last burger I had there, however, the sliders were luke warm, served on cold bread, which minimized the flavour. We know you can do better!

DAY 261

DAY 31

It was two years ago yesterday I adopted my baby pig. Got them both blessed today. There were three services near me, at two Episcopal and one Congregational church. The minister remembered us. Went home feeling better than I have after church in a long time.

WEEK 40

WEEK FIVE

Market ended up, weather ranging from horrific to fairy-tale-like, gas prices appear to be up in Virginia, but ok in DC.

Got a call from my attorney -- at least will be having some closure.

THE GOLDEN COMPASS

Used my Blockbuster Rewards to rent “The Golden Compass,” for which the Catholic League called a boycott. The author of the book apparently wanted to “kill G-d,” impossible to do, and enough people took him seriously. Never mind there are references to tolerance, “free inquiry,” truth, some substance called “dust” and to prophecies. IMO no worse than the Harry Potter books, contested by the Episcopal pictures, more compelling than “the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” and lots of pretty pictures to boot.

DAY 259

DAY 29

The Flintstones were 50 yesterday, Charlie Brown turns 60 tomorrow. Good to know someone/thing is older than I am.
