Got off work ten minutes early and got a nickel off my dinner.

WEEK 29

I think I have worked 20 out of the last 21 days. Monday will be my first break in weeks, but it’s too early to tell.

Wednesday night at Mom’s (and Dr. S’s) suggestion (badgering?) I went to the urgent care center. It turns out I am borderline anemic. Maybe that’s why I am getting so pale. So I ended up getting an IV, which did not leave me feeling any better or any worse. I can’t remember the last CBC I had. I was told to eat more meat, eggs, spinach and cereal, which I eat anyway. All I could think was, “gee, how bad would I feel if I DIDN’T?”

A web search revealed the following symptoms “irritability, mood disorders, inability to think, speak clearly etc.” That would explain it. I apologize for my inability to put together a decent English (or Spanish) sentence.

He is such a charming guy. And it’s interesting to hear how he sez he’s “come and gone” a million times with the press (which has not always been so kind to him). And that he’s won one Grammy in comparison to Alison Krauss’s 20.

It reminds me of what Casey Kasem (I think) said about how some artists break concert attendance records yet have never had a number one album or single and that others sell bazillions of records (CD’s?) yet can’t get their own families to come to their concerts.

Come to think of it, I don’t think Prince Charles could get his own family to come to his 50th birthday party.

WEEK 28

Trying not to make this into another deathblog. My boss's father died, so that means more work for the rest of us. A woman was hit and killed by a garbage trip a couple blocks from where I live. I go over that exact spot at least twice a day. I was there 20 minutes before it happened. It was a good thing I got my bottom in gear in time, otherwise I would have been there.

I found out a graduate school classmate of mine died of cancer in February. She actually went back to Gainesville and stayed there. Ugh. It was like Teddy Kennedy -- she was driving her car, blacked out, and found out she had a brain tumour. Like a lot of us, she was squeezed out of her job and eventually left to spend more time with her kids. A former co-worker said maybe it was good -- she got a raw deal, but at least she had more time to spend with them before she got sick.

I work in a beautiful building with working elevators. It's cool in summer and warm in winter. It's closer to home than the old one and I can use the restroom any time I want. And we can go to Starbucks, Subway and McDonald's without going outside. And don't have to share the elevator with service equipment.

Yesterday afternoon I got an e-mail saying the woman who owns our school died Friday. Ironic, since we associate reflexology and aromatherapy with good health and long life. I feel slightly disillusioned. Also, from a purely selfish point of view, I think "what's going to happen to us? Will we be able to finish our program? Will we have to go to school somewhere else?"

Sometimes things happen for a reason. And somtimes things DON'T happen for a reason. My massage business has been slow, and I've been panicking, even though my other jobs are going well. I take it as a Divine sign to slow down.

I am exhausted and more sleep-deprived than usual. And not completely satisfied with my work, but I don't think Michaelangelo was satisfied with the work he had done on the Sistine Chapel, either. If I remember correctly, he had misgivings about even DOING it in the first place.

Whenever I see a movie or TV show or hear a radio show or piece of music I wonder what went wrong during the making of it and how satisfied the people who made it were with the end product. And if they had fun doing it.
